Sorry for the wait, Chapter 9: Just Die, I’m Begging You, is out!
I believe this is the chapter that inspired the title of this manga series. I’ve had some conflicting discussions with Japanese native speakers about this title, but here is as good of a place as any to explain.
The first part “Shinitaku naru Shoumonai Hibi ga Shinitaku naru kurai Shoumonakute” means something along the lines of “The boring days that make you want to die are so boring that you’ll want to die.”
The second part, “Shinuhodo Shinitakunai Hibi.” means “The days where you really don’t want to die so much that you could just die.”
The confusing part is how these two phrases are linked together. I originally thought that it was just a bit of wordplay and that once you get to the second phrase you see that the entire first phrase was really an intensifier describing just how much you don’t want to die. I talked to a native speaker (in English and Japanese) who seemed a bit confused about the whole thing but he confirmed this interpretation.
But later another very passionate native speaker argued that the title means more or less, “Precisely because the days are so boring and you want to die so much, this intensity causes you to see the beauty in life and you then very much don’t want to die.” He added a pretty personal story from his own life that kind of made it awkward to ask follow-up questions. In any case, this interpretation makes some sense, so you might want to think about the title as you read this chapter to see if you think there is a connection.
